In today’s fast-moving medical environment, your reputation as a dental practitioner will be dictated by the measures you take in order to further your educational development and expand on your already perfected techniques. Dentistry is constantly evolving and procedures and dental curriculum from five years ago might now, in 2026, no longer be 100% relevant to the changes happening in the field. For example, CBCT is now common in maxillofacial procedures, and dynamic implant surgery has gone through several breakthroughs in the last couple of years.

Likewise, huge strides have been made in the creation of synthetic grafts that rival the properties of autogenous bones and improvements in implant surface technology have led to significantly faster osseointegration, even in teeth that were previously considered to be compromised. The dental field is evolving at a neck-breaking pace, and implantology is the field’s subdomain in which most progress is directly visible.  Therefore, it’s only logical to at least consider furthering your professional development with the help of implant courses for dentists.

Dental implantology courses are the most cost-effective way to complete the continuous professional development hours required by the GDC, and they also represent a way to expand on the services provided by your practice and positively impact the ROI of your offerings. 12-month implant courses for dentists are not exactly a walk in the park. But the class you’ll take will be available fully online, in digital modules, which is a benefit for already-practising dentists who have professional obligations to fulfil. Moreover, the virtual learning environment of these courses is completed with hands-on-training kits, which can simulate the complexity of orthodontic cases with almost 100% accuracy.

    Is It Financially Worth It?

In almost all cases the answer to this question is a resounding yes. If you decide to pay for the dental implantology courses in one single fee, then the total cost of the six online learning units will be £9,495. Of course, this is a lot of money. But when you consider the extended number of implantology treatments that you could add to your practice’s service catalogue, this sum could pretty much be recouped in a month or two. From a financial and professional point of view, investing in implant courses for dentists can be one of the best decisions of your career.

What will you obtain after you graduate from the implant courses for dentists? A postgraduate Diploma in Dental Implantology & Oral Surgery, which, in the UK, will be equivalent to a Master’s Degree. The PG. Dip will be endorsed by EduQual, which is a regulated awarding body that’s accredited by the Scottish Accreditation Authority.

Implant courses for dentists are useful both for recently graduated dentists who want to expand on their portfolio, and for experienced NHS or private practice dentists who either need to cover their CPD hours or want to gain a deeper insight into the implantology field. It will not be a walk in the park, that’s for sure. But graduating with a Diploma in Dental Implantology & Oral Surgery can be one of the best things you can do for your career.

How Can Dental Implantology Courses Help With CPD?

12-month dental implantology courses are perhaps one of the best ways to cover the continuous professional development expected from UK medical practitioners. In our country, dentists must complete 100 hours of CPD over a 5-year cycle and at least 10 of these hours must be covered in a rolling 2-year period. All CPD hours must be verifiable, which means there are clear educational objectives aligned with the CPD period. Therefore, a diploma, such as a post-graduate certificate obtained after completing a 12-month online course, will fit the bill precisely.

The Enhanced Continuing Professional Development applicable for UK dental professionals has been a thing in our country since the 1st of August, 2018. CDC requirements were designed and laid out by the General Dental Council and the minimum hours necessary per five-year CDC cycle are dependent on the registration title of the medical professionals. Dentists, for example, are required to complete 100 hours. However, for dental hygienists, this value is reduced to 75 hours. Meanwhile, dental nurses or technicians are only required to complete a minimum of 50 hours per cycle.

CDC is necessary in the dental field, as the information presented while you were in dental school might not necessarily be relevant now, in 2026. Yes, it’s difficult to become a dentist in the UK. You must typically complete five years of higher education from a GDC-approved dental school, obtain a BDS, complete one year of DFT, and then register with the GDC. But it doesn’t matter how in-depth the curriculum was presented during your learning years, as chances are, the dental field has made some serious strides since you were in school.

What Will Be Covered in the Dental Implantology Courses?

Most online implant courses for dentists are divided into six online units that are separated into 25 modules. The first of these units will cover the fundamentals of implant dentistry and oral surgery, while the second one will deal with dental implant treatment planning. Unit three will cover clinical implant surgery techniques, the fourth one will teach dentists how to implement restorative techniques in implant dentistry, while unit five will deal with advanced implant dentistry, such as full arch restorations and zygomatic & pterygoid implants.

Finally, the sixth unit handles oral surgery in clinical practice and deals with the core principles of exodontia and dental trauma. All these modules will add to your CPD hours and will be fully available online in a separate VA platform. Moreover, during the spell of the course, you will have access to a bespoke portal for 1:1 clinical case support from specialised, multidisciplinary tutors. And of course, all students who partake in the learning modules will receive practical training kits with the models and equipment necessary to complete the practical training exercises required throughout the course duration. These practice kits will be shipped directly to your location.
